still open for bizness

(listening to the tracks) my impression is that the guitar sounds chimey and there doesn't seem to be that much distortion. Also, wonder what amps were actually used and if any parts were done direct.

 oh yeah... this was supposed to be a wah wah thread, wasn't it? I think I like the fuzzfaceexp guy's wah better (even though the Vibratory guy is a really good player as well). Sort of a more synthy-er and fatter sounding sweep.

Yeah sounds pretty clean, FWIW my recollection of the BBC sessions was that the guitar was rather clean for the wah parts.

fuzzfaceexp guy sounds cool, maybe it's the sock

yeah the BBC one is sort of clean (thin?). (Man, I had that on cassette long ago.)

also, re: the soloed gtr. tracks. I guess the reverb is important as well?

yeah totally; working/exploiting the taper/tone change to increase expressiveness vs. straight up/down whacka whacka.

(not real new but in case anyone missed it, Dave Weyer shared photos of one wah reputedly used by Jimi: )

I don't remember reading that, good stuff. I had one of those Sepulveda King wah's with the TDK, just my opinion but preferred the Chicago version with the stack of dimes & the Italian V846 is still my #1 however I didn't hand tweak the Sepulveda so maybe properly tuned I would've liked it more. That three transistor fuzz looks interesting..

Yeah the transistor gain plays a big roll in the sound IMO.
I forgot what I had in my home brew wah & had to look back at the posts.

Haven't messed with it much other than a re-tension of a loose treadle.
