Critique my Wreck

Postby David B » Sun Oct 16, 2016 8:56 pm

My Express built a few years ago. Amp does sound and respond very nice, think I got lucky with my selection of tubes as there is no squealing even with all controls dimed. Despite the urge to deviate I tried to follow Francesca as closely as I could. Still needs a head box but I would like to build that myself so it will probably be naked for some time.

Very nice work. How much of this build has NOS parts in it?
Remember....You can fix it with a little extra energy and a positive attitude. ;)

Thanks Brian, not too many old parts , the e & signal caps are all Mallory, the OT is a Stancor A-3801 pull & the tube sockets are nos Cinch, everything else is modern parts well except the tubes, EL34,RFT & ECC83 are a mix of V3 RFT , V2 is EI and V1 an old Mullard I63

Thanks for the complement. Yeah do it , it's a cool little amp & though known for its high gain lead sound it really does have a nice clean tone as well.
Just prepare to have a lot of ECC83's to pick through for V1, thing is VERY fussy

You get the boards and stuff from RJ?

Nope, I got most parts long ago from several members of TAG.
BTW I believe RJ is going to offer a more authentic chassis in the near future.
