Speakers cab impedance

Postby Godi » Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:32 pm

Hi folks

I'm presently building a JTM45 clone and I will have eventually to buy a pair of 12 inchs speakers for this amp.

Should I buy a pair of speakers rated at 16 Ohms, wire them in parrallel to get 8 Ohms and select 8 Ohms on my amp or buy a pair of 8 Ohms, wire these in serie to get 16 Ohms and select 16 Ohms on my impedance selector switch ?

Also, can some of you suggest a brand and a model number that will suit my JTM45 without braking the bank. That for home use, al low to medium level and I play mostly blues and soft rock.

Thank for your clarification. Jean

Jean,

I only have experience with G12M's 4X12's but been told either a pair of G12 alnico's or G12M Heritage 20 watters would work nicely.

Haven't tried wiring in series but there is an advantage to parallel wiring ... if one speaker blows you still have the load of other speaker..
