Nice for keeping your tester running cool, was going to change the 83 in my BK700 to solid state but I don't run it long enough to matter much.

I was thinking more for guitar amps to get some of the "flavor" but (from what I gather) there could be a bit more to the perceived sag from the power transformer characteristics (how well(poor) it maintains voltage under load). What I remember from my crude experiments in the past, increasing the power supply impedance with a simple R seemed to smooth the sound a bit sometimes. This was mainly with solid state stuff but I wonder what exactly that does. Been reading material on HF noise(RF), and wonder if (series R after rectifier diodes) helps reduce radiation from the diode switching or something. Looks pretty easy to build/simple to try though!
