(rough summary/translation)

(According to the article) Korg and Noritake Company Limited have jointly developed a tube (a different type of tube from the usual) suitable for musical instruments and audio with substantially lower power consumption and miniaturization. Korg hopes to release products using the new "Nutube" within the year.

Noritake Ise Denshi, (a subsidiary of Noritake) manufactures fluorescent indicator valves apparently operating on similar principles as vacuum tubes. The new tube was jointly developed using this technology and features significantly lower power consumption (less than 2% of conventional tubes) and a 30% reduction in size. Additional features are domestic (Japan) manufacturing, high reliability (max. lifetime of 30,000 hours), and pin out (package) enabling direct mounting to PCBs.
